This Privacy Policy describes how Metagrid ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and shares personal information when you install or use the Metagrid app in connection with your Shopify-supported store. Shopify requires app developers to be transparent and provide clear details to individuals about how their personal data is collected, processed, and stored.
1. Information We Collect
When you install Metagrid, we are automatically able to access certain types of information from your Shopify account to provide our services.
Information collected through Shopify's APIs: We collect read and write access to your store's product data, standard core fields, and metafields to populate our visual grid and execute bulk edits. Product and metafield data is accessed through the Shopify Admin API during your session; Metagrid does not maintain a separate copy of your catalog in our database.
Information collected directly from the merchant: We collect your contact details, including your name, email address, and store domain, to authenticate your account and communicate with you. We may also generate automated logs relating to your use of the app (such as daily edit counts used to enforce plan limits).
Information collected from merchants' customers: Metagrid is a backend admin management tool. We do not drop cookies on your storefront, nor do we track, log, or collect any personal identifying information (PII) from your store's end customers.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect strictly to provide and improve the Metagrid service. Specifically, we use this data to:
- Enable the core functionality of bulk-editing your catalog data.
- Provide customer support and respond to your inquiries.
- Process billing and subscription tiers through Shopify's Billing API.
- Monitor app performance and troubleshoot technical issues.
- Send optional weekly metafield health reports by email to merchants on paid plans who have not opted out.
3. Sharing Your Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may share your personal information in the following limited circumstances:
Service Providers: We may share your data with trusted third-party infrastructure providers (e.g., hosting services like Render or database providers such as Neon) and email delivery providers (e.g., Brevo) solely to operate our application.
Legal Compliance: We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in response to a valid request from a law enforcement or government authority.
4. Data Retention
We store your data for as long as you have the Metagrid app installed on your Shopify store. If you uninstall the app, we delete your shop's session data promptly. Remaining shop-scoped records are deleted within 48 hours of uninstall, in accordance with Shopify's mandatory data erasure requirements (shop/redact compliance webhooks).
5. Your Rights
If you are a resident of certain territories, including Europe (under GDPR) or California (under CCPA), you have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, and to ask that your personal information be corrected, updated, or erased. If you would like to exercise these rights, please contact us using the information below.
Merchants on paid plans can opt out of weekly metafield health report emails from the in-app weekly report settings or via the unsubscribe link included in each email.
